The Green Lantern

As bad as the Transformers was, there was an even worse film this summer and that was Green Lantern.

This is the kind of film where everyone involved should never work on any motion picture again. Whereas, Transformers at least had high production values and was occasionally spectacular to look at it, Lantern just looks ugly and overly dark. I'm sure someone told these nimrods that the prevalent use of purple and green for the film's palette was a bold choice. But the reality is it makes the purple aliens look like cabbage heads and the green looks like a kid slapped green gel in front of a spotlight just to see green light. Oooohh. Coooool.

The plot and backstory is goofy and not in a charming way but in a pretentious build a legend out of nonsense kind of way. There were at least five credited screenwriters who worked on Lantern as I'm sure the studio panicked and kept hiring writers to punch up the plotline and the characters. They failed. Martin Campbell(Casino Royale) directed this mess. Cambells only good film was the Bond one, he's been involved in several bad films and a few mediocre ones. He's also in his seventies and probably took this job to build his K.

Ryan Renoylds stars. Renoylds is a good wisecracker but once you get past that there's not much. Blake Lively(Gossip Girl) is the love interest. She is devoid of talent. There's no chemistry between these two, yet another of the film's plethora of failings.

This is the worst film I've seen this year and joins the long, long line of awful comic book movies.
